Canal Du Midi - Montpellier

CANAL DU MIDI
MONTPELLIER - FRANCE
Considered one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century, the Canal du Midi is a man-made waterway in the south of France that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. The canal was designed and built by Pierre-Paul Riquet in the 17th century and was considered a remarkable feat of engineering at the time. The canal is 240 km long and spans across a variety of terrains, including valleys, hills, and rivers, which required the construction of numerous locks, bridges, and aqueducts. The canal was completed in 1681 and quickly became an important transportation route for goods and people, connecting the major cities of Toulouse and Sète. Over the centuries, the canal has undergone various renovations and improvements, and today it remains a popular tourist destination, with many visitors exploring it by boat, bike, or foot. The Canal du Midi was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996, recognizing its historical and cultural significance.
When I heard the word "Fench", my mind somehow associated it with two things: Paris and Canal du Midi. When I was a kid, I read, and watch lots of pictures of Canal du Midi, the beauty and tranquil scene captured my imagination. After a few decades later, I finally have the chance to visit Canal du Midi. It was surreal, I am enjoying it so much and I hugged some of the trees there! :D. Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
